About Us

In 1979 we established Deer & Game Services New Zealand limited (DGS) in response to growing demand for livestock and professional advice as the NZ Deer Industry emerged.

DGS assisted many new deer farmers in all facets of their evolving enterprises including property design and development, deer management, animal health and breeding strategies.

It was under the DGS umbrella that we went to England and imported stud stock from Warnham Park and Woburn Abbey (which continues to this day with semen). East European deer from the former Yugoslavia and Hungary in conjunction with Prince Heinrich Reuss were also imported and later the first Romanian deer to arrive in NZ.

Some of the properties developed included Raroa Stud for John & Dorothy Carter, Calverton Downs later one of Sarnia Stud Bob Atkinson’s properties, Warnham Park’s deer farm which enabled Warnham to continue to export to NZ, Ostlers Hill the first genuine stud in Australia and many more NZ deer farmers.

With the development of our own stud Stanfield Park on the shores of Lake Karapiro in 1984 this business became our principle focus until our 30th anniversary and, final stud sale in 2015. Now we have an opportunity to help other Deer Farmers so have re launched Deer & Game Services 1979 Ltd.

For 30 years straight we have grown the biggest deer in the industry by breed for age. For 27 years straight we achieved the industry’s highest average prices. Ourselves and clients have produced numerous record velvet heads for age and many world record SCI trophies and CIC trophies (unofficial).

So today we offer to share the knowledge gained over the last 35 years of hands on practical experience producing the world’s finest red deer, with those that wish to progress the performance of their own Deer operations.

I’d be happy to help you maximise your returns and achieve your deer farming goals.

Kind regards

Clive Jermy ONZM
